Frequently Asked Questions

DAHLIA TUBERS

Where do you ship dahlia tubers, and how much is shipping?

  • Due to export restrictions, dahlia tubers can only be shipped within Canada. We ship all orders with Canada Post. We offer flat rate shipping; orders shipped to BC and Alberta are $20 and orders shipped to all other provinces are $26.

When will my tubers ship?

  • Shipping dates are dependent on the weather; dahlia tubers cannot freeze, and are kept in storage until the weather in your part of the country has warmed enough to ship. This is usually from mid to late April. Once your order ships, you will receive an email with tracking information. If you have a community mailbox, it is your responsibility to check it regularly to prevent tubers from damage in cold overnight temperatures.

Can dahlia tubers be picked up locally, instead of having them shipped?

  • Yes, if you live in the Okanagan, you can choose a local pickup option (Kelowna or Summerland) when checking out to avoid shipping charges. Your order will be packaged and ready for pickup in late April - watch for an email notification that will let you know when your order is ready.

Can dahlia tubers be shipped/picked up early?

  • We are unable to accommodate any requests for early shipping or pickup.

Can you combine multiple orders to avoid extra shipping fees?

  • Yes, this year we are allowing customers the option to combine shipping for up to three (3) orders. Make sure that all your orders are made under the same name, and that you have selected the shipping option for ONE of the orders. For the other orders, you can select a local pickup option. Please just shoot us an email (info@happyvalleyorganics.org) letting us know the order #s we will need to combine manually on our end.

Things sell out so quickly. Is there a faster way for me to checkout?

  • Customers are able to create their own account on the Happy Valley Organics website. This will allow you to enter personal information, such as a shipping address and payment method, so that your checkout is quicker. This is a secure site and we do not have access to any of the information you enter here. Click the ‘login’ link on the upper right corner (desktop) or upper left dropdown (mobile) of the website. Just make sure to remember to login a few minutes before the sale starts to take advantage of this feature!

Can I create a wishlist prior to the sale?

  • No. Unfortunately, our website platform does not have a wishlist function, and this farmer’s coding skills just aren’t up to the challenge of creating one.

Will there be a restock of dahlia tubers?

  • YES. If the variety you want reads ‘sold out’ AFTER 10am PST on January 14th 2025, never fear: there will be a second release on April 5th, 2025 at 10am. This second release will be limited and dependent on final inventory counts once the dahlia tubers have come out of storage, but it will include most (if not all) varieties.

How do I store the dahlia tubers once I’ve received them?

  • Your tubers will come shipped in plastic bags with vermiculite or wood shavings. Please make sure to open up the plastic bags and store the tubers in these bags with the vermiculite in a cool, dry place until you are ready to plant them outdoors.

  • If you’re eager to get started, you can start the tubers indoors in a tray or a pot filled with potting soil; just make sure not to water very sparingly until they have sprouted.

Where are Happy Valley Organics’ dahlia tubers from?

  • All of the tubers we sell were grown on our farm in Summerland, BC and are certified organic. We do not resell you wholesale tubers from the Netherlands, as they are not certified organic and we cannot guarantee the variety or quality. We’re a small farm and want to make sure that we’ve grown and verified all the dahlias so that we can stand behind our product and maximize customer happiness! Our tubers are carefully grown, divided, and stored over the winter before being shipped to the customer.

Can I return my dahlia tubers if I’m unhappy with them?

  • Dahlia tubers are final sales. We carefully inspect and package all tubers before shipping, and guarantee at least one viable growing eye per tuber.

  • We understand that sometimes mistakes can occur; please inspect your shipment when it arrives and email us within 3 days if the wrong varieties were shipped or if there are quality issues with the tubers. We are happy to discuss your issue, and refund product if mailed back to us and it is confirmed to be incorrect or unviable. Because we cannot control storage, growing, or weather conditions once the tubers have left our farm, no refunds will be provided if you have not contacted us to discuss your shipment within this 3 day period. Return shipping must be paid for by the buyer and tubers must be returned in the packaging in which they were received.

Is 2025 really the last year that Happy Valley Organics will be selling dahlia tubers?

  • Yes, it is. Several customers have asked why this is. There were many contributing factors; Happy Valley Organics is mostly a one-woman operation, and I’ve found myself stretched too far over the last few years. Family members’ health issues, the complete loss of the 2024 peach crop, and my transition back to my original profession has found me moving away from farming after 11 years. I will miss growing flowers in so many ways, and I appreciate each and every purchase that my customers made over the past decade. But luckily there are many other local farmers who would love your support, so please seek them out!

FLOWER BOUQUET SUBSCRIPTIONS

Are you still offering weekly flower subscriptions?

  • Unfortunately, we have decided to retire our weekly flower subscriptions as of the 2024 season. Our business model has changed and fresh cut flowers have been removed from our offerings. Thank you so much to all of our subscribers over the years; we loved growing flowers for you and truly appreciate your support of a local, organic farm!
